Matt Derrick



Publisher and lead beat writer Matt Derrick is a longtime member of the journalism and public relations industries, beginning his broadcasting career the day following his high school graduation with an internship at KTXR-FM in Springfield, Mo.

By the end of the summer, Derrick joined the station full-time as both an on-air announcer and sales assistant. His role at KTXR included studio production for the former Southwest Missouri State University Bears Radio Network.

While studying broadcast journalism at the University of Missouri, Derrick served as a reporter for both KBIA-FM and KOMU-TV in Columbia. His sports coverage at KBIA included the Lady Tigers basketball beat, anchoring coverage of the hiring of football coach Larry Smith and interviewing sports celebrities, including Mary Lou Retton and Evander Holyfield.

Following college, Derrick was a special sections coordinator for Sun Publications in Overland Park, Kan.

He launched his public relations career in 2000 with the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City and quickly rose to the role of Senior Vice President of Communications.

In 2009, Derrick joined Time Warner Cable as its communications manager and later director of communications for the Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska areas. While with Time Warner Cable, he led public relations for Time Warner Cable SportsChannel. Derrick currently serves on the board of directors for the Public Relations Society of America Greater Kansas City Chapter.

Derrick joined in 2013 as associate editor.

A native of Springfield, Mo., Derrick earned his Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri in Columbia. He resides near Liberty, Mo., with his wife Nancy.
